Measuring Guide
Before measuring
- Keep in mind that the walls may not be perfectly parallel, and since this is a handmade product, the carpet cuts are not millimeter-precise.
- A good way to check whether a carpet is the right size is to see if the whole family can comfortably fit on it. Mark the dimensions of the carpet on the floor and stand with your family on the marked area – if everyone fits, then the carpet is the right size.
- Keep in mind that the maximum width of carpet rolls is 4 m, but if necessary, transitions or multi-piece solutions can be made.
- Personally, I do not recommend carpet designs with very sharp corners, as these can get in the way over time.
- If the carpet has to fit between three straight walls, small irregularities in the room may become more noticeable. In this case, it is better to choose a wavy edge instead of a straight edge, as it hides the irregularities in the room and leaves a more visually appealing result.
1. Make a simple drawing by hand
- Make a hand-drawn sketch of the hallway or room floor where you want to place the rug.
- Draw the approximate shape of the room – it does not have to be to scale, the important thing is to show the shape.
- Mark the locations of doors, cabinets, and other permanent fixtures on the drawing. Also pay attention to doorways and recesses.
- You can add the desired carpet shape freehand to the drawing.
2. Measure the lengths and recesses of the walls
- Use a measuring tape and start from one corner.
- Measure from the edge of the wall and write the measurements on the drawing next to the corresponding wall.
- Mark the dimensions only on the drawing (not on a separate piece of paper) so that it is clear later which section they relate to.
- Always use the same unit of measurement.
- Be sure to measure the width and depth of doorways.
